Back to School Supplies--in US $500--In India $50 Education in India isn’t a right. It’s a privilege—for a privileged few. That is because it is so expensive. It is certainly not something orphans and homeless children can afford. In the US, the average student requires about $500 in “back-to-school” clothes, books and supplies. In India, we can send each of our children back to school for $50 each. This is above and beyond their monthly support. Our “family” just happens to be a little larger than most—we have almost 200 children to send back to school. Our cost is $7,500 for all of them. We ask each of you, as this time of year, to please send an additional sum of $50 to help us send their sponsor child back to school. Education helps orphans or “the untouchables” to someday get a job and support a family . If they learn English and excel in their studies, they can, one day, apply and be hired for work normally only designated for upper caste Indians. The Bible tells us that when we give to the poor we lend to the Lord. What a blessing it is to lend our resources to the Lord! Thank you for making these smiles possible among India’s “untouchables.”
