Loving the Children who are a ”Little Closer to God” Someone once referred to the disabled as a “little closer to God.” Whether they are closer to God or not, we have found these children to be very open to God. Because of the guiding philosophy of Karma and reincarnation, helping those in need is rarely practiced by private or government organizations. Even among many ministries and humanitarian groups, helping the growing tide of orphans is becoming nearly unmanageable. There are 14 million and growing as the AIDS crisis devastates Africa and now Asia. As a result, the orphans we reach out to—the ones called untouchables—are left to fend for themselves. They scour garbage dumps and back—alleys to find food. Yet, there is one group that cannot even do this—the physically and mentally disabled. Mission of Joy is beginning to address these sad little ones. During my recent visit, I saw several new children among our recent intakes who were mentally and physically disabled. Many cannot smile and have limited speech ability. At present, we do not have the medical help needed to better their lives, but we have the medical care to prolong their lives. I want you to know that in an orphanage of 80 children, I saw a miracle that you might not see even in our schools here in America. Rather than despising these little ones, I saw one of orphans carry another. I saw another put her arms around one and lead her from the playground to the cafeteria, making sure she had all she needed. I saw the Love of Jesus Christ being poured out on these mentally and physically disabled children. Thank you for helping us reach these little lambs. God help us to do even more—much more to help them
