“The Poor Don’t Call the Fire Dept—They Call MOJ!” While I was in Eastern India this year, I met the Mayor of the city of Mangalagiri—a city of 250,000 people. He stopped by to tell me how much he appreciated the work we were doing among the poor in his region. I was surprised when he said, “The poor have learned that when disaster strikes they cannot depend upon the fire department to come in time or come at all. When the poor have trouble, they call Mission of Joy.” Of course, we can’t meet even half of the needs that we see, but even those who oppose us recognize God’s love is being poured out through us. In time, we believe God will touch their hearts and draw them Him.
