Remembering our Elders for Jesus Sake We seem to live in a world that places less and less value on the wisdom of our elders. It was God’s plan that the young should learn from the wisdom of their elders. That is why God’s word tells us to , “Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and so revere the Lord your God.” (Lev 19:32) Sadly, in India as in many other places, little value is placed upon the elderly. They are seen as a burden rather than a blessing. When a woman is widowed or an elderly man cannot provide for his own needs, there is no social security to care for them. Most abandon the elderly in their hour of greatest need. As our elders cared for us when we were not able to care for ourselves, so we should honor God and care for them. Mission of Joy began a home for widows who had no family to care for them almost 20 years ago. In return for our support, they have prayed for our orphans and ministries around the clock. We praise God for them and their faithful prayers as we honor their service to the Lord. The crown of the elderly is their wisdom and it is God’s great gift to each of us.
