America's Loss of Innocence: New Bathroom Laws Coming Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. . . Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. (Psalms 1:1,2,4) Have you considered that it is the nature of all things on earth to decay? As it is with the earth, so it is with those who dwell here. Only in Christ may we be renewed. Beyond Christ, the heart of man will follow whatever path suits him—and it does not lead to the gates of Heaven. In October, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed SB 777 into law, which will become effective January 11, 2008. SB 777 changed the definition of “gender” under the California Education Code. "Gender" now means “sex.” This includes a person's gender identity and gender related appearance and behavior whether or not stereotypically associated with the person's assigned sex at birth. In short, you are what you think you are regardless of your anatomical make-up. Pro-family organizations warned before passage and signature of this bill that it would end protections for children as we have known them. While the terms “Mom” and “Dad are not in the language, language bans “discriminatory bias” of words that feel harassing to members of the gay and transgender communities. Even more disturbing, the bill allows each person to determine their “sex” regardless of their anatomy and use the corresponding bathroom and locker room facilities. (more information on this bill, and family groups working to overturn it can be find in many places including: Campaign for Children and Families; Worldnetdaily.com and World Congress of Families). Sin is never satisfied. It is not content to “live and let live.” It is always seeking more lives and hearts to devour. Those who say all they seek is tolerance and those who believe them do not understand the desire of our great and powerful enemy. It has always been God’s plan to provide a way of salvation for men after our fall from grace. Yet, Satan is not only a powerful enemy but a great deceiver. Even in the weeks following the signing of this new law, the Gay Straight Alliance “forwarded instructions to its California chapters with information on how to make sure homosexuality is taught in public schools, and warning {to} ‘tolerate’ homosexuality is not enough.” (World Net Daily Dec 17, 2007).
In the Old Testament, there were cities that had fallen into such sin, that no man or woman could safely walk there without being attacked. I wonder how does such a law benefit my young daughter? How is it good for her to go into her locker room to change and have a man who calls himself a woman undress in front of her? Were such a person to reveal themselves outside of the locker room or bathroom to a child, they would be arrested immediately. Yet not so inside the walls of a California public school. I have written many articles and books in my lifetime, but I cannot say that I ever imagined I would need to explain or defend privacy and safety for our children in this way. What is to be done when a nation casts off all restraints God provided for their well being and safety? Some may say, “this is only in California and one county in Maryland.” Yet, the nations textbooks are derived from California standards since they purchase the largest numbers. For better or worse, as a nation, we are interconnected. What Can Be Done? Certainly, it is a parent’s responsibility to determine whether their children are safe in every environment. In this situation, if this law stands or expands, it will soon be acceptable behavior in public restrooms and gym facilities. Children coming to your church may wonder why they must use one restroom exclusively. It is time for Christians to begin to battle in the heavenly places. It is time for national, Christian, daily, fervent intercession. Intercession is not about “putting ourselves in their place,” but putting our hearts in line with God’s desires. It is about persevering until victory comes, or death overtakes us. We have our nation and our children at stake. Are they worth paying the price of intercession? May we be found faithful in this fateful and dark hour. Though we are outnumbered, we must never forget that Jesus, who is our Lord and King, is also our mighty champion and victor. Godspeed you |
